Dear readers,
Leif Vollebekk wrote a song called Wait a While that never fails to catch me off guard. It’s one of those rare pieces that makes me pause and listen differently each time. There’s something deeply soothing about it—a quiet reminder of forgiveness and forward motion.
The song feels like a short answer in a meaningful conversation, almost as if he’s speaking directly to me. That feeling has stayed with me as this year begins. Inspired by its message, I’m carrying an intention to be both forgiving and direct in the months ahead.
In the third verse, running dogs in adverse conditions like rain and snow metaphorically illustrates the need to persist through challenging circumstances to reach a destination or desired outcome. The arrival at this point is significant, as it is accompanied by a sense of awe and appreciation, expressed through the line "Every hair on your arm I will raise it." This could represent the fulfillment and satisfaction that comes from achieving something after enduring hardships. You can listen to Wait a While in this newsletter’s playlist and see if it resonates with you too.

Me dressed in Sézane wool trousers, a Totême cashmere sweater, a classic flap bag, and suede shoes.
I’m pairing my T-flap bag in lacquer with a scarf I absolutely adore—both from Totême.
In our last Q&A, some of you asked about my New Year’s resolutions, so I thought I’d share them here. This year, I’m prioritizing calm, quiet, and consciousness. Over the past months, I’ve learned a lot about myself—setting boundaries, both for me and with others.
I’ve spent time reflecting deeply and critically on what truly matters. In many ways, it feels like I’ve left a toxic relationship—the one I had with certain parts of myself.
Here’s what I’m focusing on this year:
*Making my voice heard and supporting causes that matter. This means staying engaged in political conversations and continuing to donate as much as I can to those doing the real, on-the-ground work.
*Renovation and slowly redecorate, adding details in the city apartment and bigger adjustments to our country house.
*Prioritizing rest, calm, and reading. Walk the dog, do the work, read the book, have the conversations, stay true, don’t lie. Sleep in, walk the dog, kiss the kids, spend a lot of my time with dad, Pilates. Walk the dog and sleep. On repeat.
*Taking at least one trip with my girlfriends—something I’ve promised myself and maybe Carolina as well ;)
*Investing my time and love into this Arts & Tea project. I’m excited to see it grow. More interesting meet ups, get together book club and much more.
Here’s to a year of thoughtful growth and meaningful action. What are your resolutions?
ON GROWTH - Embracing New Beginnings
René-Antoine Houasse, Apollo pursuing Daphne (detail), 1677
First weeks of the new year and I find it interesting to reflect on timeless wisdom about growth, resilience, and embracing life’s stages. I want to remind us that becoming who we are is a lifelong process, marked by self-acceptance and courage. Maybe we can start by letting go of what no longer serves us—be it toxic relationships, self-doubt, or unnecessary perfectionism—and instead, focusing on what truly brings joy and meaning.
This year, I will lean towards this approach as inspiration. Set resolutions that aren’t about fixing flaws but about nurturing your truest self and helping others.
In 2025, Lets see time as an opportunity to start anew, honoring the person we are becoming while leaving space for growth, mistakes, and discovery. After all, as Meryl Streep ones said, “The best thing you can do is face life with honesty, curiosity, and a little humor.”
PLAYLIST - New beginnings
I came across a picture on Carina Nicklas’s Instagram recently and found myself reading it three times. It struck a chord—a simple, friendly reminder for the year ahead: you can start any day. Just start.
This playlist is inspired by that sentiment, bridging the timeless sounds of 1974 with the boundless energy of a fresh year. Drawing from a soulful storytelling and the raw authenticity of classic hits, it’s a musical journey that feels both nostalgic and full of possibility.
Infused with a modern vibe, the playlist reflects the Denver-like spirit of “everything can happen”—a mix of wide-open skies, fresh starts, and the grounding warmth of familiar tunes. Whether you’re dreaming big, reflecting, or setting intentions for 2025, this is your soundtrack for embracing the magic of new beginnings.
WISHLIST - For your eyes only
As a true conceptualist, I’m stepping into 2025 with inspiration from the effortless modern woman—classic, feminine, and always authentic. This style, a seamless blend of confidence and grace, reminds me that dressing well is about more than appearances; it’s about feeling good and staying true to ourselves.
This piece of jewelry is pure enchantment—an absolute dream I find myself yearning for in a way that feels almost unhealthy. Then there’s another Cartier looking ring, equally captivating in its aesthetic allure, yet belonging to an entirely more approachable realm of affordability.

THE SHOW - Cinderella at the Royal Opera
This Christmas season, I continued a cherished tradition with a dear friend: attending the ballet. This year, we saw Cinderella at the Swedish Opera, and while some elements stood out beautifully, others left me with mixed feelings.
The production had a classic charm, with scenery that captured the enchanting and timeless quality of the story. The dancers were remarkable, every movement a perfect blend of fun, modern grace and precision. Their artistry brought the characters to life, making the performance truly memorable.
However, the costumes didn’t quite match my expectations. They leaned too whimsical and modern for my taste, which felt at odds with the traditional story and scenery. While this was a creative choice, I found myself longing for a more timeless, elegant approach to the wardrobe.
That said, the production itself is particularly well-suited for children. Its lighthearted tone and enchanting storytelling make it an ideal introduction to ballet for little ones. If you’re looking to create a magical and memorable evening with your children, this is a wonderful option.
Watching Cinderella also brought back memories of my own ballet training. I dance once a week for a couple of hours, and it’s a true exercise in both body and mind. Ballet challenges me like nothing else—it’s a workout, an art form, and a moment of mindfulness all rolled into one.
Whether you’re seeking inspiration, magic, or simply a beautiful night out, I encourage you to make time for the ballet this year.
SNAPSHOTS
Taking the dog out in a pillbox hat and a pinstriped coat—adding a touch of charm to the gray weather.
Soft materials paired with my grandma’s bijoux create the perfect blend.
I wear Chanel Coromandel and Misia as my signature scents. Here’s a glimpse of my vanity after my morning pampering ritual.
My favorite blouse from MALINA and my beloved dog, OC—two things that never fail to brighten my day.
Trying on a few pieces my contact Kate set aside for me at Totême—always a treat!
Winter weather leaves little room for imagination—no outfit changes happening here.
I’ve been pairing this crinkled silk scarf in cream with everything lately—it’s become my go-to accessory.
I’m starting to embrace my ginger chestnut-colored hair—it’s growing on me more every day.
THINK THANK - New beginnings
Penny loafers Boots
Loafers reimagined as boots emerged as a trend last year, and it seems they’re here to stay in 2025—alongside the bold resurgence of red. As a dedicated loafer enthusiast, this continuation feels like a dream come true! This pair from Billi Bi perfectly blends classic design with everyday comfort
Scarves, Everywhere and Every Way
From the thick silk triangles by The Row to my crinkled Chinese silk, from classic Hermès squares to effortlessly draped scarf jackets—it’s all about scarves this year. With a nod to the carved elegance of Carven and the minimalist aesthetic of Totême, scarves prove they’re not just a trend but a timeless staple.
Classic, versatile, and undeniably chic, scarves are everywhere right now—and they’re here to stay. This one from ARKET is very simular to a black one i had for years from Toteme, it looks modern and classic at the same time.
Oriental carpets or rich dark chocolate tones will take center stage on the floors, adding depth and warmth to the space.
I’m filling every room with orchids as usual—my go-to for timeless elegance. And who knows, maybe a bonsai tree will make its way back into the mix this year.
In our bedroom, I’ve centered these exquisite Chinese lacquered trays above our master bed

Oriental Patterns and Textiles
Boccara, kelim, and paisley have always been timeless, but 2025 feels like their moment to shine again. I’m certain we’ll see an infusion of Japanese silk panels adorning walls, flooring with Greek-inspired patterns, and Chinese bird motifs paired with rich lacquered finishes.
If this aesthetic resonates with you, Carina Nicklas should be your go-to source of inspiration. Everything she shares leaves a lasting impression, finding a permanent place in my memory bank. Her curated, timeless style is truly unmatched, and her posts are a treasure trove of classic elegance, Find Carinas Substack here.
For John and me, these intricate designs and textures evoke the warmth of our childhood homes—a journey back into our own history. Yet, they seamlessly allow the artistry to travel with us into modern spaces, proving that some styles never truly 'get old'
THE BOOK CLUB - Joan Didion , Run River
Finally, I just want to say how excited I am about the opportunities ahead to connect and create together. From exploring art venues and diving into fashion musings to meaningful meetups, there’s so much to look forward to this year.
For February, I’m suggesting Run River by Joan Didion as our book of the month. Mark your calendars—I’ll be hosting a moderated book chat on February 28th at 8 PM. Let’s make it a memorable evening!
I’m exploring the idea of hosting in-person gatherings for the Book Club—there’s something magical about sharing thoughts face-to-face, surrounded by great books and even better company.
Maybe this spring? Who’s in? Leave a comment below if this sounds like your thing, and I’ll start scouting for the perfect venue!
AFTERNOON TEA - a sequel
After my last venture into the world of afternoon tea, I’m back for round two! This spring, I’m diving deeper into the ritual, with new spots to explore and experiences to savor. First on my list is the charming Chaikhana in Old Town.
Stay tuned for more updates—because who doesn’t love a little tea, treats, and tradition?
Best, Julia
